Most decisions are not hard because the answer is hidden. They are hard because you do not have the right framework to think about them. Mental models are reusable patterns of thinking that experts use to cut through complexity. This program teaches you the most powerful models for making decisions under uncertainty, including inversion, second-order thinking, opportunity cost, and the difference between decision quality and outcome. By the end, you will have a working toolkit you can pull from any time you need to think clearly about something that matters.
Eighteen questions you can use again
A mental model is a question you can use again. Every lesson leaves you with one, so you finish with eighteen. Here are the first six.
- 01What can I not change later?
- 02Am I choosing this, or is it just what I always do?
- 03Was this a bad choice, or just a bad result?
- 04What is the second question?
- 05And then what?
- 06What would make this fail?
